Description

The publication of the Five Year Forward View (FYFV) and Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) have changed the way in which care is provided to patients and users of health care services. In most areas, mental health services have been one of the biggest areas of practice that have changed and patients suffering from mental health conditions are being exposed to new models of care.

Patients suffering from mental health conditions are no longer attached to secondary or tertiary care services, and are now more frequently being cared for by community services. In order to provide the best quality care, all members of the community MDT need to have the relevant skills and knowledge to provide these services. In addition to this, secondary and tertiary care providers will be expected to interface more effectively with primary care to ensure the smooth transition of patients between the services.

This FREE, one day event aims to provide a short update about the new ways that care is being provided to patients and will utilise the knowledge, skills and behaviours of some of the experts currently working in this field who are doctors, pharmacists and nurses. It will also bring together a range of different professionals, allowing them team learn from each other in a safe environment.

At the end of the day, participants will:

  • Understand the indications for new medicines available for the management of mental health condtions

  • Understand the treatment options available for patients suffering from conditions linked to addiction

  • Apply the principles of therapeutic drug monitoring to complex scenarios

  • Develop ideas and networks for closer working across professional boundaries to improve mental health care in the community.

This event is aimed at:

  • All practitioners (doctors, including GPs, GP trainees, pharmacists of all levels, nurses, trainees, OT / PT) who are currently working, or will be working within this setting and wish to gain an update in areas they may not have encountered so far.

  • All practitioners (doctors, including GPs, GP trainees, pharmacists of all levels, nurses, trainees, OT / PT) who are working within secondary care, and may have an interest in mental health.

  • All practitioners (doctors, including GPs, GP trainees, pharmacists of all levels, nurses, trainees, OT / PT) who work at the interface between the relevant mental health services.

The day will be made up of a variety of thought provoking lectures, interactive workshops and dynamic networking events aimed to dissolve boundaries between the providers of mental health services and improve the outcomes of our patients. Topics will include:

  • Managing adults and their medication in the community, including new medications available, involving services users in the medication management and safe use of high risk medications

  • Addiction

  • Adolescent mental health

  • Managing the mental health of the older person - resistant depression and age-related mental health.
